The Publications Service of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) took part in the Second Informal Meeting of Catalan Diamond Open Access Scientific Journals, held on 22 April at the School of Public Administration of Catalonia (EAPC).
The event brought together representatives from nine institutions in Catalonia: CSUC, EAPC, IEC, UAB, UB, UDG, UJI, UPC and UPV, with the aim of sharing experiences and advancing jointly in the field of diamond open access scientific publishing. During the session, key issues for the development and sustainability of journals following this publishing model were discussed. This model is based on free access for readers, with editorial costs covered by the publishing institutions. Topics addressed included publication formats and workflows, infrastructure and interoperability, metadata, visibility and impact, as well as quality, standards and evaluation systems. In addition, the meeting explored aspects related to governance, editorial teams, and legal and security challenges.
The First Informal Meeting was held in April 2025 at the CRAI UB (Learning and Research Resources Centre of the University of Barcelona) and was promoted by the UAB Publications Service. With this second meeting, organizers and participants consolidate a space for cooperation among key institutions in the Catalan academic publishing system.
Participants gave very positive feedback on the event, highlighting its enriching nature and its usefulness in fostering synergies. These meetings help strengthen collaboration between institutions and promote improvements in services and processes related to open access scientific publishing.
